heather's story

Never give up. That’s the mantra Heather Knies wants you to live by.

At the age of 24, Heather’s life was disrupted when she was diagnosed with Astrocytomaglioma Grade II brain tumor. After undergoing treatment, the cancer went into remission and Heather looked ahead to her promising future.

Life, however, likes to test our strength. For Heather, that was two short years later when her tumor returned. Only this time she was diagnosed with the deadliest type of brain tumor, Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) grade IV. Doctors gave her 6 months to live.

She couldn’t ignore the depressing statistics. This brain tumor kills most people within 14 months of diagnosis. Even scarier, fewer than 10 percent of all people diagnosed with Glioblastoma survive five years.

Heather had two choices: accept her fate or fight for her life. She chose the latter. Celebrating ten years post diagnosis, Heather is beating the odds and rewriting the outlook for others facing this deadly disease. She credits aggressive treatment (including 2 brain surgeries, radiation, and 3 years of chemo) combined with believing in herself, staying positive, and keeping the faith to her personal story of survival.

Heather is now focused on sharing her message of triumph to inspire people around the world. She is married, a mother, and cancer-free. Most importantly, Heather is a true testament to why we should never give up.

PROMISE

"Finding out about my re-occurrence was devastating news.  Given 6 months to live, I chose to fight with everything I had to beat the deadly mass that was still left in my brain.  My promise is to continue telling my story to bring awareness to the disease of brain cancer."
